Provence, land of tradition

A land brimming over with history,
Marseille with its 2500 years is the oldest town in France. Provence, the meeting place of the civilisations of the Mare Nostrum (Mediterranean Sea)
continues the traditions, sometimes a thousand years old, of its past :


In May :At Lambesc, festival of St. Elrad, the patron saint of shepherds, where the old methods of working are revived.

At Saintes Maries de la Mer, a procession of the gipsies honouring Saint Sarah, the black virgin and at Arles, feast of the `gardians`(cowherds of the Camargue.)

In June :At Salon, the fête of the transhumance et Night of the Shepherds.
At Tarascon, fête of the Tarasque, a mythical beast existing in fables which gave the town its name.

In July :At Salon, the fête of the Hay.In August :

In September :At Mouriès, the traditional fête of the olives.
At Aix-en-Provence, the blessing of the `calissons`…

Not forgetting the Luberon with its châteaux ( Lourmarin, La Tour d`Aigues,d`Ansouis and Lacoste, the ruins of the château du Sulfureux (marquis de Sade).
